Commercial trucking training is an important step for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career as a professional truck driver in Canada. This training provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to operate commercial vehicles safely and effectively. There’s a huge demand for truck drivers across the country. To meet the needs, the Canadian government recently added trucking as a profession under the Express Entry program

If you are considering commercial trucking training, here’s what you can expect during the training process:

Classroom Instruction

The first part of commercial trucking training typically involves classroom instruction. In this phase of the MELT program, you’ll learn about the rules and regulations of the trucking industry, including federal and provincial regulations that govern the operation of commercial vehicles. You’ll also learn about important safety procedures, such as how to conduct pre-trip inspections and how to respond to emergencies on the road.

During this phase of the training, you’ll also learn about the different types of commercial vehicles, their features and specifications, and how to operate them. You’ll study topics like truck engine mechanics, braking systems, and transmission systems, as well as how to navigate and communicate with other drivers on the road.

Hands-On Training

Once you’ve completed the classroom portion of the training, you’ll move on to hands-on training. This phase of the training involves practising the skills you’ve learned in a real-world setting. You’ll have the opportunity to practise driving commercial vehicles, including manoeuvring and parking.

During hands-on training, you’ll learn how to inspect and maintain commercial vehicles. This is an important part of the training because it ensures that the vehicles you’ll be operating are safe and roadworthy. You’ll learn how to check fluid levels, inspect tires, and assess the overall condition of the vehicle.

Some commercial trucking training programs may also offer specialised training in areas like hazardous materials handling, driving in inclement weather, or driving in congested urban areas.

Licence and Certification

After completing the training program, you’ll need to obtain a commercial driver’s licence (CDL) before you can begin working as a professional truck driver. The CDL exam consists of a written knowledge test and a driving skills test. The knowledge test covers topics such as traffic laws, safety regulations, and vehicle maintenance procedures, while the driving skills test assesses your ability to operate a commercial vehicle safely and effectively in a variety of situations.

In addition to obtaining a CDL, some trucking companies may require additional certifications, such as a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement, Tanker endorsement, or Doubles/Triples endorsement. These certifications demonstrate your ability to handle specialised equipment and materials, and can help you qualify for higher-paying jobs. Other than these certifications, the air brake endorsement certificate is the most important one. It is a 2-day course offered at our Brampton truck driving school. You can attend it during the MELT course or after you get your A or D licence.

Job Placement Assistance

Many commercial trucking training programs offer job placement assistance to their graduates. This can be a valuable resource for new truck drivers who are just starting out in the industry. Job placement assistance may include resume writing and interview preparation services, as well as connections to trucking companies that are hiring.

It’s important to note that not all training programs are created equal. When choosing a commercial trucking training program in Brampton, it’s important to do your research and choose a program that is reputable and has a track record of success.

In addition, make sure to consider factors like the length of the program, the quality of the training equipment and facilities, and the qualifications of the instructors. It’s also a good idea to read reviews and testimonials from former students to get a sense of their experience with the program.

Commercial training at our AZ truck training school provides individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue a career as a professional truck driver. The training process typically includes classroom instruction, hands-on training, licence and certification, and job placement assistance.
